On Monday, we gave you four tips to make the most out of your fuel mileage. Today, we’ve got four more ways–from things you can do at home, to services our skilled team at Honest Wrenches can help you with.
Tire Inflation
It’s a simple fix, but when it comes to an easy step to get the best gas mileage, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. When your tires are underinflated, heat and friction between the tires and the road increase, creating drag–which increases your fuel consumption. By properly inflating your tires, you can improve your gas mileage by at least 3.3 percent.
Alignment
When your alignment is off, it can cause your vehicle to dog-track (when your vehicle pulls to the side when you’re driving) which will cause you to have to fight the steering wheel to go straight. The pressure from preventing dog-tracking creates added heat and friction between your tires and the road, not only decreasing your gas mileage but also causing your tires to wear prematurely and unevenly.
Additives
The right fuel additives can really be worth it and make a difference in your gas mileage. But you have to be selective about the additives you use, as many additives can actually impact your gas mileage negatively. As effective as fuel additives can be, they can only restore your gas mileage, not increase it.
Fuel System Services
We saved the best tip for last! Having a proper fuel system service performed on your car can be a great investment to get the best gas mileage possible. This impactful service can restore your fuel economy to brand new! There are three different service options based on the type of engine in your vehicle. Depending on that type, our team will determine whether Gas Direct Injection fuel service (GDI), Fuel Induction Service, or Fuel Injection service will be best for you. Each service will make a huge difference for your vehicle, and you’ll definitely notice at the pump!
