How to Check Your Tire Pressure

Every vehicle will have a factory recommendation when it comes to proper tire pressure. When it comes to the tires on your car, keeping the right tire pressure at all times is vital. Low tire pressure can put you at risk for a tire blowout and can cause excessive tire damage and decrease overall fuel efficiency.

If you want to give your tire pressure a check yourself, purchase a tire pressure gauge if you don't own one already. They are typically inexpensive and can be purchased online or at any auto parts store. To start, be sure to look up the factory recommended tire pressure for your vehicle, which can be found in the owner's manual of your car.

When you check your tire pressure, try to do so in the evening and wait a little bit after you've driven. You don't want your tires to be too hot, because you won't get an accurate reading. Find the little hose that sticks out of your tire rim - this is where the gauge will connect.

Remove the cap of the tire hose, and plug in the tire pressure gauge. Use a firm pressure to get an accurate reading and to avoid letting out too much air. Testing at least twice will give you the best, accurate reading possible.

If you do notice that one or more of the tires is low in air pressure, bring your vehicle into the experts here at Honest Wrenches. We will fill up your tires to the correct settings and ensure that there is no underlying cause of the decrease in air pressure.
